The BLUMERA POPPIES RUTHENIUM OCTAGON SCULPTURAL METAL CLUTCH | MET GALA is a sculptural work of he(art), envisioned by Mehera Blum and recently carried by Janelle Monáe to the Met Gala 2026.
Inspired by Poppies, a painting created by Mehera’s late mother, Laurie Blum, in the Garden of Paradise in Bagh-e Eram, Shiraz, Iran, the piece carries forward a story of beauty, spirit, and love. Laurie described the painting as expressing “the joy in all living things.”
For this creation, Mehera carefully selected and re-composed individual flowers from her mother’s painting, tracing Laurie’s original brushstrokes by hand to form the sculptural design. At the Blumera atelier in Bali, the original sculptural forms are hand-carved under Mehera’s close artistic direction by a Balinese priest and Blumera’s master carver. These carvings are then transformed in Italy through an intricate jewelry-making process into a fully sculptural brass clutch assembled like a large piece of functional jewelry.
Finished in a deep graphite-toned ruthenium plating, the clutch possesses a striking gunmetal luminosity that shifts beautifully in changing light. Inside, the piece reveals a removable silk pouch, words of love inscribed from Meher Baba, and individually numbered edition markings. A sculptural floral clasp bearing the Blumera name completes the design.
Entirely hand-finished and produced in an extremely limited edition, the Poppies Ruthenium Octagon Sculptural Metal Clutch is designed to be carried not simply as an accessory, but as a vessel of beauty, spirit, and high vibration.
